The Hampton Roads Public Works Academy is proud to sponsor the Intermediate Work Zone Certification Class. This two day course will feature The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) mandatory Work Zone Traffic Safety Training Program (referred to by VDOT as the Work Zone Traffic Control Training Program or WZTCTP) based on Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) regulations provided in the Code of Federal Regulations (23 CFR 630 Subpart J) which states that: "States (i.e. Virginia et al) shall require that personnel involved in the development, design, implementation, operation, inspection, and enforcement of work zone related transportation management and traffic control be trained, appropriated to the job decisions each individual is required to make."
As of July 1, 2009, any employee of a heavy construction company or municipality who is responsible for work zone traffic control planning, design, implementation, inspection, and/or supervising the selection, placement, or maintenance of traffic control schemes and devices in work zones on the State Highway System is required to have this training.
This course will benefit construction supervisors, foremen, superintendents, and engineers responsible for on‐site inspection and placement of traffic control devices around state highways.
Participants will receive a pocket guide, manual, certificate of completion as well as a VDOT Certification Card via mail.
